Hockey Challenge, One Point Weekend

I busted a finger over the weekend. Actually, I don't know that it is broken because of the swelling and I refuse to go to the doctor's but the nail is all mangled and my finger looks like a Jimmy Dean Sausage.

All this to say that typing is tough... so this will be short.

Please donate to the Ronald McDonald House in the name of myself and my team. The Challenge is less than 3 weeks away and it's time to push this total up.

As far as hockey goes... I thought the team played decent over the weekend. They held things together on Friday night despite stupid penalties and some questionable calls thanks to some solid defense and goaltending by Danny Mumaugh.

Saturday was obviously a disappointing result because based on reports they played extremely well for two periods and let things fall apart a little bit in the 3rd. Points are still points and at least games seem to be more towards the games we saw at the beginning of the season as opposed to the games in late December and early January. Every point matters from here on out... though I think the result of any playoff appearance is already a formality.

I support Ronald McDonald House...worthy cause. It hits home for me. My family stayed in the Seattle house in 2007 after my six month old son received his liver transplant. Both my wife and I decided to forget work, luckily for me my work sent me work that could be completed via telephone, and stay with our young son during this terrible time. Ronald McDonald House gave us a place to stay, without having to rent an hotel room, while our son had daily appointments. The house is a home away from home. Imagine having a child or grandchild that needs extended medical care and where would you stay? This organization provides a safe, protected and welcoming environment. Please donate!

So I am watching the game on line last night, did anybody notice how Evan Wardly passes the puck to the other team allot? I counted 6 passes that way, terrible game by him.Does he have a future in Seattle?

Here is a sobering thought!! Last year and this year our back up goalies( Cotton,Myles,Mumaugh ) are a combined 1-16. The worst in the WHL. Cotton is gone, Myles is hurt all the time, Mumuagh is an average goalie at best, Seattle is wasting another year of finding their next goalie!!

The problem of passing the puck to the other team seems to rotate through our defense. Last night was Wardley, but previously it was Forsberg, before that Foulk for a game, a lot of games where it was Theodore...

Saying that Myles is hurt all the time is a bit unfair as this is his first full season with the Birds, if he is hurt all year next year then maybe you can say that. It is way too early to say that Mumaugh is "average at best." Not every 16 year old goalie is going to be Calvin Pickard. Give the kid a chance.

Tyler, what are your thoughts on the goalie situation?

Well Myles was hurt for most of the year before as well during his 15 year old year. So I'd say he is pretty injury prone at this point.

Mumaugh has a LONG way to go before he could be a starter in this league just based on my eyeball test of his movements.

I think he could serve as the backup next year as a 17 and that would be fine but that means going out and getting another goalie... possibly another 20 year old.

Nothing official, but I have heard via conversation at the games that J. Myles was injured in a car accident this season. Not sure if that changes the idea that he's injury prone, but it's possible that the worst of his current injuries are not hockey related.

Can't wait to hear more of the same comments (excuses) from Konawalchuk (sp) before tonights game. Just record the pre-game interview and replay it.

One Fan's Plea - For the love of Pete, Farwell, hang it up and hire the best GM available, or is your hobby more important than turning this franchise around after years of futility heaped upon the fans?

I can't believe they actually advertised in their email they send out to "Secure your season tickets for next year" I am going to cancel mine, big deal you save a couple of bucks a game and why would I want to sit in the same seat game after game watching this crap of a hockey team.
