Quick update today before I head up to Everett to catch the first Pre-Season game. I won't be around on Sunday so I wanted to make sure I caught this game.
I will be tweeting some thoughts and updates from the game, @TylerHunnex.
Seattle has updated their roster for the game today... and there are a few things to note.
Connor Honey is not listed. I don't know this for sure but I would guess that this means he wants to keep his NCAA options open and decided not to sign with the Tbirds at this time. Btw... so much for being a "lock"... gotta love Anonymous comments.
Daniel Wray is still around and might be a sleeper to make the team. Right now he is the only 16 year old forward listed.
Michal Holub is still here as a 15 year old... which is cool. If he plays that would obviously mean he has signed a deal with Seattle. Once again... it is worth nothing that Gropp is not here, which almost certainly means that the Tbirds have NOT signed their top pick. Makes me very nervous...
Carter Struthers is still around... that is good news in my book. Taylor Green is still around but probably needs to impress quickly to make the team since 11 defenders are still listed.
Seattle still carrying 4 goaltenders with Cotten and Myles still around.

Forwards-
There are 15 listed but one is a Holub and Jacobs is out for an extended period of time so barring any trades I see us keeping them all.
Defence-
There are 11 listed but one is Button so in all actuality we are looking at going in with 10. I would assume we carry 6 for games with 1 - 2 healthy scratches which means two of them will likely not make the team.
Goaltending-
This one interests me as I think if either Cotton or Myles show that they can produce that would give way for a possible trade of Salmon who has looked pretty solid in camp
any idea why Troock isn't in the line up for todays exhibition game?
Troock is probably just a healthy scratch as they are carrying extra guys. As for a trade for Salmon, what teams would be in the market for a goalie? He was excellent in camp last year too. It would be nice to see this guy get a trade to somewhere that he will get to play!
I have heard that Van and Moose Jaw and maybe Swift are looking for tenders. I agree, Salmon needs to get some minutes.
Could not make it up to the game tonight, how did the Birds look?
Lost, 5-3...last Spokane goal was an empty netter, just after Sanvido missed a wide open net that would have tied it at 4-4. Some good, some bad. Lockhart, Noebels and Alos were solid. Sutter dropped the gloves with Kramer and looked good getting in a few shots. Too many penalties and Hauf got hurt, looked serious too. Myles was good in goal, made one highlight save with his glove. They might be able to play .500 hockey or just below that this season.
whats wrong with Jacobs?
Jacobs had shoulder surgery. Supposedly a linger issue that needed to be taken care of sooner than later.
So Troock hasn't played, hopefully this is something short term but it could be a continuation of what kept him out of action last season. Sure hope not. Wish there was some word on this. Gropp hasn't signed? Hauf is injured? Heck of a deal three first round picks which aren't or may not be able to help this team. I'm sure Hauf is short term but don't know but Wow - things not going our way.
3 first round picks? Try 7. After Hickey the picks have been Cody Hanson (never made the cut), Steve Chaffin (retired; concussions), Erik Fleming (mediocre at best), Connor Sanvido (still hope but didn't see much ice as as a 17, looked good in camp though), Troock (concussions; could end up like Chaffin), Hauf, (currently injured) and Gropp who may elect to go to college instead. It's been a combination of bad picks and bad luck. Better get Hauf healthy and Gropp signed because those two were top 5 overall picks in the WHL draft. If you're gonna have two back-to-back crappy seasons and end up with high draft picks, you better make those picks count or it's a huge waste.
yeah I know all too well about those picks too, was just recounting the most recent three. We were being outshot by spokane 34to 11 going into the third period today - but neither team had scored. the end shot count was about 42 to 20 or so and spokane won 1-0.
I think Honey was a "lock" to make the team had he chosen to join the team.
Looking forward to the game this Saturday! Any hockey is better than no hockey. :-)
Any idea of when the guys away at camp will start to trickle back in?
Saw that Connor Honey verbally committed to Denver and will play in the USHL this season.
I see that now too... Excellent find.
Doesn't Konowalchuk's brother coach Denver? interesting
His brother is George Gwozdecky?
