The news is out. The Avalanche blog at the Denver Post is reporting that former Portland Winterhawk, Washington Capital and Colorado Avalanche, Steve Konowalchuk will be named the new coach of the Seattle Thunderbirds.
Konowalchuk, has been an assistant coach to Joe Sacco in Colorado for the past two seasons.
Links can already be found here for the Denver Post blog and here for Jim Riley's report in the Seattle Times.
Join me in welcoming Steve to Seattle. Let's all hope he can take the Tbirds to the top of the mountain in the years to come.

Did not see that one coming, I like it. Time to get to work and hopefully this all works out for the best.
I like it too! Welcome aboard Coach Steve!
Good news! It will be exciting to see what he can bring to the Thunderbirds! Congrats to the new coach and to the TBirds for their work in bringing him here!
Interesting choice, both from Farwell and Steve K. Certainly did not think that he about a young up and coming coach line Konowalchuk when Farwell was saying that he wanted a guy with NHL experience. Certainly make me more optimistic than Clouston.
Look forward to the season!!!!

A nice coaching clip featuring Steve Konowalchuk!
I am a big fan of this hire as well. Given his age, charisma, and all-around knowledge of the game, he is a perfect fit for Kent.
Save for the fact he is an effin' Winterhawk...decent hire.
