For some reason I can't remember but does anyone who wasn't with the team last year go to prospect camp or is it for 15's, 16's and walk-ons?
Prospy Camp is typically for kids that we drafted last summer and this summer, which would be kids that are 15 and 16 this season.
Some of the kids from the Prospy camp will be invited to stick around and play with the rest of the invites and returners in the Main camp.
Thanks dude, still exctied to see what this roster is going to end up looking like. I really hope we don't sell the farm for a couple of 20 year olds if the kids have a future in Seattle
I do too. I think this team could use one more solid 20 year old kid who that has a combination of skill and leadership.
I have no desire for this team to make a push towards being the 7th or 8th seed in the Western Conference if it means stunting the development of any of our young kids.
If I said to fans... Would you rather finish 9th or 10th this year with the idea that you might wind up being top 4 in 2011-12 or would you rather fight hard for the 7th or 8th and potentially rob some of your young players of valuable playing time that might be needed for their development for the 2011-12 season?
I think this is exactly what fans have been complaining about for years. That the Tbirds just try to stay "decent" every year and never actually go for it. Well... now we're going through a full rebuild mode so that we can truly "go for it" in 2011-12 and some fans clearly aren't patient enough to wait for the potential payoff.
I agree, I talked to way too many people last year who were happy that we were finally rebuilding but were furious because the team had a horrible record. They didn't understand that when you are trying to rebuild the team with youth that it's going to happen that way.
I feel a bit lazy to go look now but I wonder what the graph you made last year about age/success with a team that is 1 year older would look like.
Quick recap. Last year Birds were the youngest in the league after the deadline. If they move up to around league average (18.02 years of age) their expected points would soar to 74.84.
However, I fully expect them to stay on the young side of the average. Let's ballpark 17.75 their expected points come in at 59.90.
Somewhere between those two numbers is where I see the season happening.
This is why going out and getting the full three 20's makes zero sense. So you push your average age up to 18... we could still only realistically expect them to push their points to around 75 which would have only been good for the 7th seed last season.
However if you keep all of your youth and roll out an average age of around 18.25 in 2011-12... suddenly your expected points becomes 87.57, you're a contender and you can sell some youth to really go for a banner.
Thanks for the update. Do you know if these skates will be open for public viewing?
Yes, training camp skates are most certainly open to the public.
