Alan Caldwell did all the mathematical work on this one for me... which is why he also has an incredible WHL blog.
The post can be found here but the general idea is that a team in the Western Conference has to get to roughly 55 points in order to make the playoffs.
Today the Tbirds sit at 25-27-4 which is good for 54 points. The Tbirds would need to go only 0-15-1 the rest of the way to still get to 55 points and probably make the playoffs.
So while they have not mathematically clinched a playoff spot they would need a historic collapse in order to miss them.
Still no word yet on how long Jon Parker will be suspended for the Charging Major he received on Saturday night in Tri-City.
